SUPERVALU’s Albertsons chain serves patients across the country through its more than 1,900 retail pharmacy locations. Patients who fill prescriptions at one Albertsons expect to be able to get refills at another location, and pharmacists at each location need to be able to access patient drug histories, allergies and refillable prescriptions to guard against negative reactions and provide superior customer service. In a litigious environment, a single mistake can be extraordinarily costly.

By deploying Initiate® software, SUPERVALU will increase patient safety and satisfaction while improving customer service and arming pharmacists with the information they need in real time. Initiate Systems helped identify and resolve duplicates in each of Albertsons’ retail pharmacy stores and is helping Albertsons migrate to a next-generation pharmacy system. Once this system is live, pharmacists will have real-time access to patient profile data and prescription history for every Albertsons customer.

The Kroger Co.

Kroger is one of the largest retail grocery and pharmacy chains in the United States. Kroger operates under nearly two dozen store banners, with over 3,700 locations and approximately 2,000 in-store pharmacies. Previously, about half of the pharmacy locations used TechRX and the other half used PDX, with neither system talking to the other. As a result, Kroger pharmacists couldn’t see information from other stores, potentially affecting patient safety.

Kroger came to Initiate Systems to migrate their existing pharmacy customer data into a clean central customer database. They plan to integrate this database with their new pharmacy application to provide more accurate customer recognition and provide more complete views of customer prescriptions. Kroger’s pharmacists will be able to access these complete views in order to perform a more complete drug safety assessment (Drug Utilization Review), taking into account other prescriptions and potential drug interactions. As a result, pharmacists will be able to better communicate and provide a higher level of safety to their customers, who will benefit from the convenience of being able to fill prescriptions anywhere in the Kroger network.
