Baylor Health Care System selects Initiate Systems for strategic enterprise master person index (EMPI) initiative

Initiate Identity Hub™ software to link millions of patient identities across multiple vendor systems, facilities and provider networks

Chicago, IL (June 28, 2005) - Initiate Systems, Inc., the leading provider of software for creating a complete, single view of data about people, households and organizations, today announced that Baylor Health Care System has selected Initiate Identity Hub™ software to build an enterprise master person index (EMPI) designed to help improve patient safety efforts, enhance the patient experience and increase the overall satisfaction of patients and care-givers. Initiate Systems’ software will serve Baylor Health Care System’s 12 hospital facilities and 370 physician practices by enabling them to more accurately identify and link over 3 million patient records across 10 different systems and an enterprise data warehouse.

The software will bring all of Baylor Health Care System's patient records together into a single view for improved care and reporting capabilities. The EMPI will reduce existing duplicate records and the creation of duplicates at the initial point of service, helping the operation run more efficiently.

Baylor Health Care System has received national recognition for its leadership in health care information technology. In April, Modern Healthcare magazine and the Healthcare Information and Management System Society named Joel Allison, Baylor Health Care System president and CEO, as a winner of the 2005 CEO IT Achievement Award. The award recognizes CEOs who are committed to bringing information technology to their organization to improve care and meet strategic objectives. For the past five years, Baylor Health Care System has been named one of the nation's 100 "Most Wired" hospitals and healthcare systems by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association.

"We were looking for a system that could provide us with a trusted, patient-centric view across acute and ambulatory settings for both clinical and financial applications," said Jim McPhail, vice president of Information Services for Baylor Health Care System. "We chose Initiate Identity Hub™ software because it is an accurate and scalable solution that can be quickly and easily deployed."

Initiate Identity Hub™ software — the leading EMPI technology — manages patient and provider data and enables quality-of-care and interoperability initiatives among local, regional and national healthcare entities. The proven technology finds, links, indexes, maintains and provides secure access to patient records within and across disparate sources to promote collaboration and provide the foundation for electronic health records. Initiate Systems has been recognized by KLAS Enterprises as the leading vendor for the KLAS market segment EMPI for 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
