Initiate Systems Software Used by Accenture, Computer Sciences Corporation and IBM to Help Create Complete Patient Views for NHIN Prototypes

Prototypes Demonstrate NHIN Foundations Using Initiate Identity Hub™ Software for Critical Record Locator Services

New Orleans, HIMSS Booth #1041 (27 February 2007) - Initiate Systems Inc., the recognized standard in enterprise master person index (EMPI) software in the healthcare industry, today announced that its Initiate Identity Hub™ software helped create complete patient views for Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) prototype solutions recently developed under contract with the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). Accenture, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and IBM each selected Initiate Identity Hub™ software as part of their prototypes. Additionally, Initiate, through its partnership with RxHub, has involvement with the fourth prototype.

Initiate Systems software was selected based on the technology’s ability to accurately match and identify patient records across communities and to scale to handle large quantities of patient data. Initiate Identity Hub™ software also provides IHE-compliant support for Health Level 7 (HL7) for Patient Identifier Cross-reference (PIX) and Patient Demographic Query (PDQ) Manager interoperability standards, which were required components of the NHIN architecture prototypes.

"The future of American healthcare depends heavily on meeting the US government’s goal of creating personal electronic health records for its citizens," said Bill Conroy, president and CEO of Initiate Systems. “The fact that many of the NHIN prototype architectures used Initiate Systems software is another example of our EMPI market leadership. We are very pleased to work with these dominant companies to answer our nation's call for an accurate, secure and interoperable health information exchange."

Accenture, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and IBM led three of the four teams of technology companies and health care providers in local health care markets to develop prototype architectures for secure information sharing among consumers, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies and physicians.

Initiate Systems provides software and services for healthcare organizations that want to deliver a comprehensive view of each patient in real time to all points of service. Initiate Identity Hub™ software is the most accurate, scalable and rapidly implemented EMPI solution available for healthcare providers, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), independent physicians associations and regional health information organizations (RHIOs), that want to improve patient identification and customer satisfaction, protect data privacy and security, enable interoperability and provide a critical foundation for EHR implementations.
