“Down-to-Earth Data Governance”

Data governance is not just an application of appropriate technologies to solve data quality issues; it’s more about culture change within your organization. Organizations that have an effective data governance program have taken a close look at the people, processes and policies that comprise their program. In this podcast, Marty Moseley, chief technology officer at Initiate Systems, presents four lessons learned from talking with leaders at organizations that have worked through various data governance issues. He will explain why companies struggle, and more importantly, identify steps you can take to avoid those struggles.

“Where to Start in Master Data Management”

Marty Moseley, Initiate Systems’ chief technology officer, encourages you to go after something that matters to your enterprise. In this segment, you’ll learn about some common questions you might ask while choosing an area for your first MDM deployment:

  • Identifying Outside Constraints such as Regulatory, Customer, or Supply Chain pressures
  • Identifying Areas of Cost or Risk that Impact your Business
  • Identifying Opportunities for doing something that shows value to a broad segment of your enterprise

“Building or Buying Your Way to MDM Success”

Marty Moseley, chief technology officer at Initiate Systems, presents the podcast “Building or Buying Your Way to MDM Success.” Marty will describe several key considerations you should make when pondering the age-old question of build vs. buy.

For example:

  • What can you do in IT to generate more revenue?
  • What are your current data volumes? Will they increase in the future?
  • Are your customer relationships one-dimensional? If not, do you care about their inter-relationships and hierarchies?
  • Do you augment your internal data with that from external vendors?
  • How much time do you have to allocate? How much time before you need to show results?

“Securing Data Privacy”

“Securing Data Privacy” is presented by Scott Schumacher, Ph.D., senior vice president and chief scientist at Initiate Systems. Some people have concerns that data integration makes them more susceptible to security breaches. Scott explains how a master data management solution can help improve the privacy and security of data.

"Managing Expectations: Strategies for Successful Master Data Management"

Master Data Management initiatives don't just happen overnight. In this podcase, Marty Moseley, chief technology officer, gives you instructions and examples on how to manage people's expectations during your MDM implementation.

“Data Models: Beauties or Beasts?”

In “Data Models: Beauties or Beasts?” Marty Moseley, Initiate Systems’ chief technology officer, and David Pittman, director of marketing communications, tackle this topic in a question-and-answer session. You will learn:

  • What are data models and how are they used?
  • When and why should you build your own data model vs. using one from a vendor?
  • What are the issues around using different data models from multiple vendors, such as CRM, ERP and other enterprise software?
  • How should you use data models in a master data management solution to be the most effective and successful?

“Master Data Management: Your Relationship Coach”

“Master Data Management: Your Relationship Coach,” is presented by Rick Clements, senior director of strategy at Initiate Systems. While earlier systems for integrating data typically dealt with a single type of data at a time – customers, products or vendors, for example – master data management now mandates that you look at relationships across all sources and types of data. Rick explains how managing data relationships can help you grow your business, improve efficiency and manage risk.

“Iterating Your Way Through Master Data Management”

Master data management is a complex, multi-step undertaking. In this podcast, Marty Moseley, chief technology officer at Initiate Systems, gives you valuable tips for taking manageable bites out of MDM so you can realize positive results in shorter timeframes.

“Building a Healthcare Data Exchange: Points to Ponder”

The looming National Health Information Network (NHIN) seeks to help match and link patient medical data across the country, regardless of where someone is treated. Listen in as Lorraine Fernandes, vice president, healthcare industry ambassador, and Dr. Scott Schumacher, Ph.D., Chief Scientist, discuss the importance of accurate data, interoperability, privacy, security and a host of other issues that must be considered with NHIN.

“Consumerism in Healthcare: Moving Beyond the Clipboard”

While it might not seem so at first glance, consumerism and interoperability in healthcare share a symbiotic relationship. In a typical cycle of care in which a patient visits multiple sites for care (such as a primary care physician, diagnostic imaging lab and a specialized clinic), a patient must complete a set of forms on a clipboard. Anywhere from 20%-80% of the information on those forms is the same, so why do we make the patient repeat it? Hear Lorraine Fernandes, vice president, healthcare industry ambassador, describe how the ability to share accurate patient data across the healthcare ecosystem can help improve consumer (patient) satisfaction, reduce delivery costs, detect fraud, and ultimately improve patient safety.

“Reducing Improper Payments: With Today's Technology, There Is No Excuse”

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has reported that federal agencies spent more than $55 billion in fiscal 2007 on improper payments. Improper payments are largely the result of incomplete or inaccurate data, human error and fraud. While human error and fraud can be difficult to address, there is no excuse for that level of incomplete or inaccurate data. There are a range of technologies today that address this issue. Master data management (MDM) is one of them. Scott Schumacher, Chief Scientist at Initiate Systems, spoke about how to reduce improper payments on the radio program “Federal Drive, with Tom Temin and Jane Norris,” a regular segment on Federal News Radio (WFED) in the Washington, D.C. area.
